Conducting a Successful Board Leadership Retreat

This workshop covers key strategies and techniques to design, develop, and conduct a successful board leadership retreat.

Board leadership retreats provide an opportunity to address sensitive issues such as board involvement in fundraising, evaluating or developing a new strategic plan, and other areas which can provide a springboard in a positive direction.  At the same time, these retreats are often fraught with difficulties for all involved if not structured and designed appropriately.  Often Executive Directors, Board Chairs, and others struggle with issues and concerns related to the role of the board in fundraising, complicated internal political dynamics, and new board members with ideas which may differ from the status quo.  This interactive session provides a road map to increase the effectiveness of your retreat by addressing these issues and ensuring that the focus remains on supporting the mission of the organization.

Nonprofit Executives and Board Members will learn how to:

  • Cover and avoid the potential difficulties, dangers, and pitfalls that can adversely impact board retreats
  • Learn how to navigate and address sensitive topics and minimize the impact of internal political dynamics
  • Differentiate your retreat from standard board meetings and ensure that participants walk away with a sense of accomplishment
  • Use a proven methodology to design a successful retreat with tangible outcomes
