LOCKDOWN PROCEDURES:
A lockdown may be declared if there is an imminent threat. Faculty, staff, and students will be notified via classroom/office phones, text messages, emails, or verbal commands. Remember: Avoid, Deny, Defend.
AVOID:
Get away from the threat. Shelter in the nearest classroom and lock or barricade the door. If you are not able to get behind a door, you may choose to flee the area of the threat if safe to do so.
DENY:
Stay in lockdown until police or TCC Public Safety officials give the all-clear. Secure doors, turn off lights, close blinds, stay quiet, and try to remain calm. Turn your cellphone to silent or vibrate, and limit cellphone usage.
DEFEND:
As a last resort, if your life is in imminent danger, incapacitate the threat by any means necessary.
DURING A LOCKDOWN
- Follow instructions from police or TCC Public Safety officials.
- Only open doors for identified law enforcement or TCC security. If you cannot confirm their identity, do not open the door.
- Police or TCC Public Safety officials will lift the lockdown through electronic messaging or personally in the buildings.
- At the conclusion of an actual lockdown event, rooms will typically be released one at a time to ensure everyone is accounted for and to provide any necessary assistance.
