« back to classes page
Nonprofit organizations are subject to complex legal requirements under both federal and state law. Lack of awareness of these rules can jeopardize an organization's tax-exempt status, put funding at risk, and lead to unexpected financial liabilities. This course will provide an overview of 10 key areas of law applicable to nonprofits, and help you understand the practical implications of these rules through discussion of examples and hypothetical situations. The topics covered will include 501(c)(3) qualification issues, compliance with the organization’s Bylaws and other governing documents, navigating fiduciary duties and conflict of interest, the unrelated business income tax, donor acknowledgment letter requirements, worker classification, and more.
