Did your last press release go unnoticed? Are you unsure how to get the media interested in your programs and events? If so, then this course in media relations will help you develop good story angles and land coverage. Learn how to identify compelling story ideas, pitch and develop lasting relationships with local media outlets. We'll identify easy ways to start obtaining news stories and interviews on your nonprofit. Through interactive exercises and real-life examples you'll leave prepared for your next interview and excited to pitch your next story idea to the media.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
  • Identify newsworthy angles from his/her nonprofit.
  • Write a compelling email pitch to a reporter.
  • Understand how to pitch a story to a reporter and follow-up.
  • Describe how to develop relationships with the media.
