Nutrition and Sports Medicine

CourseGraphic
The Nutrition and Sports Medicine Camp is an interactive program that aims at teaching children about the importance of eating healthy as well as exercising in a way that may help prevent sports-related injuries. In the Nutrition portion of the program, we will examine dietary behaviors (taste preferences and habits) and the roles the environment and family serve to influence such behaviors. Students will gain an understanding of how to feed their bodies well, and learn to use eating as an activity that nourishes the body and spirit.  In the Sports Medicine portion of the camp, students will learn about some common problems from playing sports, such as sprains, strains, and athlete’s foot, and how to prevent, diagnose, and treat these problems. They will also learn about tendons, ligaments, joints, and reflexes through interactive activities and crafts (such as bone and joint models) that they will take home.
